Fur Trade and the Effects on Sea Otters

Have you ever wondered why you never see sea otters in Oregon? Sea otter populations along the Pacific Coast were severely impacted by the 18th-19th century fur trade. Learn more about this history and how the fur trade affected the very animals it was built off. The presentation will conclude with a hands-on portion where guests will get to feel the pelts of animals hunted during the fur trade. Talk runs 20 minutes in the Ford Room.
