Oregon State University Clatsop County Extension Service is seeking an enthusiastic and motivated student intern with a passion for agriculture, community health, and sustainable food systems.

Posted: 03/02/2026

Based in Astoria, OR, summer interns will work alongside faculty in our Master Gardener, Small Farms, 4-H, and Coastal Health Extension programs throughout Clatsop County. This position offers a unique opportunity to gain hands-on experience in supporting local farmers, gardeners, and community members while contributing to a variety of educational events and activities.

Key responsibilities include:

· Program Coordination and Implementation: Assist in the planning, organization, and execution of educational events and activities for farmers, gardeners, volunteers, and community members.

· Teaching and Presentations: When appropriate, assist in conducting food tastings and demonstrations, educational sessions, training workshops, and other presentations on community health, nutrition, farm, or garden topics.

· Communication: Develop external communication materials in the form of emails, press releases, flyers, and social media posts.

· County Fair Support: Support 4-H staff with preparation and execution of the Clatsop County Fair (July 22-25, 2026), including moving supplies, taking photos, and coordinating volunteers.

· Documentation and Reflection: Maintain a blog documenting internship experiences with the support of the Assistant Extension Internship Coordinator.

In addition to these tasks, the intern will have the opportunity to learn about the Extension Service’s mission and history and provide a significant addition to their resume. Based on their specific interests, the intern will be asked to develop a final project in the form of an educational program, publication, process, or tool for future Clatsop County Extension operations. Interns may be invited to collaborate on other programs, such as Oregon Sea Grant or disaster preparedness efforts. This internship offers a fantastic opportunity for students with an interest in health or natural resources to make a meaningful impact in local communities while gaining practical experience that can be applied to a future career.

This is a paid internship position with a pay rate of $15.05 per hour. Interns usually work full-time (40 hours per week) for 10 weeks, from mid-June to late August, but exact dates are flexible and part-time work is a possibility. Housing is not provided.
